Where are the reputable sources?

Only share information from reputable hard news sources on your social media. “Hard news” is a term we use in journalism for fact-based and fact-checked articles that have been scrutinized.

Almost all hard news stories and features from wire services like Associated Press, Reuters, Agence France-Presse, United Press International, are reputable. These sources are mostly used by print newspapers.

There are independent bodies like National Public Radio and Public Broadcasting Service that also provide hard news and are considered “most trusted,” according to a 2017 University of Missouri study.

Event the traditional broadcast news divisions of NBC, CBS, and ABC are known for presenting hard news—but because stories are cut for time, there is much information left out and consumers might make the wrong assumptions about the information shared.

Cable news sources, tabloids, blogs, podcasts, and social media are by far the most populated with opinion pieces and biased commentary.
