Gerald Farinas was ordained as an elder of the Presbyterian Church (USA) by Executive Presbyter the Rev. Dr. Craig M. Howard on February 13, 2022. On the same day, Gerry assumed leadership of the historic Edgewater Presbyterian Church.
In 2023, Gerry served as Elder Commissioner in the business of the Chicago Presbytery.
A community service booster, Gerry has been charter director of the Evanston Nouveau Rotary Club in Evanston, Ill. since June 1, 2021. He was inducted as a Paul Harris Fellow.
He is most passionate about hunger projects and civic participation issues—especially participation in elections.
Gerry is a published writer with past work in LGBTQ media as editor and publisher. He currently works with GoPride Media Networks and its flagship GoPride.com.
A longtime dementia educator, Gerry is director of resident services and professional development instructor at a non-profit community affiliated with the Evangelical Covenant Church.
Gerry was born and raised in Honolulu with roots in the sugarcane and pineapple plantations of Hawaii. He is the grandson and great-grandson of plantation laborers.
An Islander, Gerry moved to Chicago and settled in the Edgewater Beach neighborhood.
He lives alone.
