Statement From Gerald Farinas for Alderman of the 46th Ward

Thank you for your support of our campaign

Dear friends and neighbors:

While I remain committed to serving the public, my aldermanic campaign does not have the necessary money, and face the challenge of a heavily crowded race of well known personalities, to allow me to spread my vision for the 46th Ward and the city I love. I must be realistic and honest with myself and my supporters. It is with deep regret that I must, for now, end this campaign for a seat in the Chicago City Council.

When I announced the beginning of this campaign, I thought I could make a real difference, making changes that would benefit thousands of my neighbors. But public service need not affect the masses I imagined. If I help but one neighbor, my work will not have been in vain. This time around I could not do what I set out to do. But I'm not going to let it stop me from what I can do. I might not become the next alderman of my ward, but my desire for public service remains. I'll just do it one neighbor at a time.

Thank you for the time we've shared on the campaign trail.

Yours in service,
Gerald Farinas

"It is easy enough to vote right and be consistently with the majority… but it is more important to be ahead of the majority and this means being able to cut the first furrow in the ground and stand alone for a while if necessary." Patsy Mink

"Few men are willing to brave the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world which yields most painfully to change." Bobby Kennedy
